I used to love seeing those big black clouds that the refinery would produce... o how they would travel slower than all of the other clouds... or how those clouds passing my house would mean that all of the washing on my line would fall to pieces. Ah the joys of living near an oil refinery.

Yet another oil refinery fire in South Africa as opposition petroleum firms try outwit each other. People are saying that a lack of maintenance of surrounding infrastructure as well as overall safety procedures at the Engen refinery in Durban South Africa has led to a serious explosion here in December 2020 where 7 workers were injured due to falling while evacuating and due to smoke inhalation. The refinery is owned by South African oil company Engen and is listed as the second biggest in the country. It has a crude oil refining capacity of 120,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to Engen. Second major refinery fire this year Engen said a fire burned at the refinery for about an hour and 35 minutes but didn't mention an explosion. The cause of the fire was under investigation, the company said. It was not immediately clear if there was any impact on the refinery's production. The country's third-biggest crude oil refinery, a 100,000 bpd facility operated by Astron Energy in Cape Town, was also rocked by an explosion earlier this year.

This is a National Key Point Site (NKP) as well as a Major Hazardous Installation (MHI). Well guarded. Products are manufactured from imported crude oil. The road is frequented by Trucks. However, traffic is smooth flowing.
