I would give it a zero rating if it was possible. It took forever to get booked in and get to my room. Rooms don't have air conditioning, kitchen didn't have tea, eating with plastic cutlery, flies in dining area, patients ignoring mask wearing rules, stains on bed linen, bed light not working. You are not getting what you pay for. I had been to a lot of clinics and they charge the same price but they are 100 times better.

I checked in to Akeso a few weeks ago, The nurses were ready for me to go into isolation and then I was fed and well taken care of. The covid test was done on my second day in Isolation and I got to see my psychiatrist on this day too. Once I got my negative Covid19 results, they moved me to the GU. Once I joined the GU I had my orientation, the nurses were lovely and everyone was very informative about everything. The nurses were helpful and kind and really caring, the cooks made really great meals, I think we complained once about the food. Maintenance is always being done. The place is spotless, constantly getting cleaned, and just the friendly nature of everyone is really appreciated especially when you in such a difficult space in your life. I would recommend anyone and everyone to this specific clinic. The Cope team were always well prepared and delivered really strong lessons on a daily occurrence, their also seemed to be this constant communication between all the counsellors so they were on the same page. It's a very safe and welcoming space.

There are definitely fantastic workshops that have given me valuable coping mechanisms and goals moving forward. Unfortunately not all the workshops I felt were necessary or for everyone. ie. Beading; Walking; Coloring; Group Games etc. I had hoped for more Yoga and Meditation. Considering what Medical Aid is paying per day I didn't expect to play games. The food is average and down time space is rigid and cold. Covid has definitely put a spanner in the works, not worth that same amount paid anymore. The rooms are immaculate, sadly the communal toilets are unhygienic. The check in / check out system is extremely poor. Added to this, when I arrived sadly I was 'completely in the dark' as far as what I should bring along with me (towel; double adapter; plastic jars instead of glass; water bottles) These were things I figured out through fellow patients and trial and error. The process is long and tedious. There is complete miscommunication where the Drs/Nurses are concerned. I expected an element of relaxation coming here, but was disrupted every hour with either someone just opening the door, bloods, vitals, or seeing a Dr. You never know when you're going to have a session with a Psychologist or Psychiatrist, a moment to prepare your mind. You must just jump. None of these sessions are planned or on a schedule for us to work around. This being said, the amount of times I was asked 'What is your name' became tiresome. Be it the nursing staff or kitchen staff. I am grateful for everything I am able to take home from the workshops I attended but would definitely would not enjoy a full 21 stint. I think the most valuable acquisition was my new Psychiatrist, Dr Singh whom I will definitely stick with. Thank you, Akeso for the experience and knowledge I leave with. Perhaps you can work on these points.

This review pertains to Dr Laurence Oliver specifically. My fiance is his patient. 3 months ago she suffered a panic attack that took us to the emergency room it was so bad. We tried contacting Dr Oliver immediately and thr following day only for him to take 48 hours to respond to what is a patient emergency. He then charged us R1400 for a 10min whatsapp call. Multiple enquiries regarding the cost of this single call were never responded to. Her medication script is finished and following an enquiry for a single repeat he simply responded with her patient file has been terminated for non payment of the contested and very poor service phone call. This guy is in it for the money and does not seem to care about patient care.

Some of the best care in the business. Highly professional & really caring with quality. Provides food accustomed to own request. Caring & smart. Find it difficult to communicate after hours I recommend they need to get more secretary staff for after hours.
