Signature of Hope Trust is an accredited non-profit organisation, structured as a charitable trust, raising funds through personal and corporate donations. Since we opened our doors in 2014, Signature of Hope has supported non-profits who are passionate about making a sustainable difference in the lives of vulnerable children living in underprivileged communities. Through our partnership with adventurer and philanthropist - Chris Bertish, SOHT was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Chris Bertish SUP Crossing and have been actively working to raise funds for the most at-risk children in Africa, together with Operation Smile SA and the Lunchbox Fund. In 2018, our focus will be on improving the literacy levels in South Africa by partnering with Shine Literacy and establishing independent Literacy centres to support underperforming primary schools. The Shine Literacy Hour provides individual support to help strengthen each child’s reading, writing and speaking skills. It is a tragic situation when you realise that 29% of Grade 4 learners in South Africa are illiterate and 58% cannot read for meaning. Reading is a powerful tool to tackle poverty and inequality: when children read for pleasure, it has a greater effect on their educational achievement and that of their families’ socio-economic status.
