Sactwu for South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union which represents most of the Western Cape's all important Textile Industry. One of the larger affiliates to Cosatu . Seeing long serving experienced personnel was a great pleasure.

I met the director of the SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union named Simon, he was shady and secretive. I request for his assistance to provide me some contacts of garment manufacturers in SA. He didn't want to help me which I don't know why. He claimed he has over hundred thousands of garment factory contacts but when I asked him to provide one, he couldn't name one. Simon told me that his real background training is an analyst. In my opinion, he is not the right person or the right fit to lead the union. He doesn't have any fashion design education nor fashion skill to understand how the business operate. I believe the people of SA deserve a better candidate to lead this organization. If he is doing a superb job, ask yourself this question: why are so many fashion skilled workers unemployed? You can't always blame China and other countries as a scapegoats. Competition are healthy if you know how to adapt and change. You need the right person to lead this union otherwise at this pace, sooner or later the fashion industry in SA will be decimate in the next few years under his leadership. Plan for the long-term not short-term. Pick someone who can lobby the right individuals in the government to change the law and choose someone who work for the people of SA. All South Africans deserve a much better leader than the one you currently have for your union! Good luck my Brothers and Sisters!
