I’m an adventurous hiker who's been living in CT for 3 years and exploring less common routes up The Moutain alone in my spare time. I had heard on the grapevine that the most challenging route was called Ledges and I just had to get me some of that! With very little details online I eventually found a Youtube video by Henk, I messaged enquiring about the starting point and the rest is history. Henk and a mate arranged a hike for a cold, wet and cloudy winters Monday morning - perfect conditions for a crazy Englishman. The hike/ scramble/ climb was just as perfect as I'd imagined it to be: Risky, demanding and exhilarating. The eerie conditions made it even more awesome in my opinion. We did a 4 hour round trip - up Devils Peak, across Ledges to Maclear’s beacon, across the summit of Table Mountain and down Platteklip gorge. With a tad of Japanese whisky and flask of coffee this adventure was everything I hoped it would be and more. Needless to say I will definitely be contacting the Secret Adventurer again when I wish to discover other ‘fun’ routes in and around Cape Town.
