Passive-aggressive staff, and store policy really needs to catch up with 2001. Visiting from Pretoria, staying in Simon's Town, we had no wi-fi and wanted to hire DVDs. First I was told as a visitor I need proof of my rental in ST. I asked if I could email proof. No. We went looking for a place to print in Fish Hoek. No luck. My friend who lives in Plumstead then printed a bank statement with his address, and we went back. "Sorry, we only allow rentals to people living up to [Tokai? Can't remember.] We will need your proof of rental." "Can I email it, then?" "No, sorry." "You really need to catch up with the 21st century." And we left. A week's worth of rentals from us lost to the store. Ended up renting from Vee's Video in Lakeside, which accepted emailed proof of residence.

I found this store to be unhelpful when it came to renting a simple DVD. I was staying the week in Simon's Town with no Wi-Fi and was keen to rent a few movies to watch during the week. The lengths I had to go to just to prove I wasn't going to steal the DVD's was ridiculous. I was told that I had to give my I.D. and proof of address. After leaving and returning with a bank statement with my permanent address (I stay in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town), I was told I live too far away to be allowed to rent any DVD's. In a last-ditch attempt to try and rent the DVD's I said I would e-mail my Airbnb booking receipt to prove that I was staying in Simon's Town and the shop employee simply refused to accept it. In the end, I went to Vee's Videos in Lakeside were all they needed was a copy of my I.D. to allow me to rent. I understand that the shop employee was just doing his job, but this is the 21st century in an age where DVD stores are struggling to stay open against big Internet streaming giants like Netflix and Showmax. Surely Videorite could have been a bit more accommodating considering my circumstances.

The woman who helped us is an absolute B****! The people in general are unfriendly! If it weren't for my kids being excited about taking out dvds I would've told her to keep them and walk out. We have both DSTV and Netflix but for some reason my kids just love going to choose dvds. Alas, I won't be putting my foot back in that DVD shop. Updating my review as I received a call from the DVD shop the same evening as a follow up to my review. The lady listened to my issues - will consider visiting this shop in the future based on the fact that someone actually picked up the phone (the same day) and followed up on my complaint.
