The Institute for Youth Development SA (IYDSA) is a South African non-profit organisation which seeks to mitigate the ravaging effects of HIV and AIDS. IYDSA provides HIV care and ARV treatment, as well as mentoring and training for primary health care clinics. Another key aspect of IYDSA's work is its work with orphan and vulnerable children. IYDSA's HIV care and treatment program is called Zisa Uncedo, which means ‘bring help’. The objective of Zisa Uncedo is reducing HIV infection and AIDS morbidity and mortality by providing anti-retroviral treatment (ART). IYDSA increases access to treatment through mentoring and training primary health care workers. IYDSA is establishing post test clubs (PTC) throughout 5 provinces in South Africa which enables individuals to participate in solving the range of health care challenges within their own community. IYDSA's orphan and vulnerable children program is called Ulutho, which means 'meaningful'. The objective of Ulutho is to provide a stable and loving family home for abandoned and orphaned children. Ultutho works with local communities to identify and support families who can provide a family for these children. Ulutho also plays a strategic role in advocating for the needs for children. For example, Ulutho liases with the courts and social workers to ensure appropriate implementation of the Children's Act.
