Good place to find second hand stuff. It's always fun taking a walk through and checking out all the things on offer.
Smitties is a second hand shop. I found few quality items as they cater in cheap second hand rather than antiques. However, if you need something cheap it might be just the place for you.
Went inside Smithies Second Hand Shop in Walmer and met with the gentleman, who is the owner it seemed. Told him I have some household furniture to sell, which he said he was pleased about and where can he go and see it. The minute I mentioned Sidwell, before I could even explain which side, he arrogantly said: Oh no. I wont go there. I am too scared because there they stole some of my stuff off my van. My girlfriend told him that we were quite insulted and he said it was his right to choose where to go. She then told him that is true, but he insulted us before he even heard where the place is. Before anything was further said, we just left. Such uncouthed arrogance was hard to believe. I have stayed on the good business side of Sydwell for a year and have all my maintenance tools, ladders, etc on an open vehicle daily, and never ever have I had a concern of theft, etc. I feel the least he could have done was to give us a chance of explaining where the place is. In fact, there are so many businesses, INCLUDING a few second hand dealers, so truly do not see the area concern this owner had. I will definitely not suggest anyone to have direct dealings with Smithies Second Hand Furniture, but to rather phone first and see if this gentleman chooses to purchase in only the 'RICH" areas, or our crime infested Sidwell. What I can say, is that at the end of the day it was not our loss, as I have a few other properties with furniture ie in Walmer, Summerstrand, Lovemore Heights and Sidwell, which I was going to ask him to go and look at furniture as well, but I will ensure not to recommend Smithies (any of the branches). Pity people get judged by where others think you might stay, if you just mention an address. One thing is for sure, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER. Jy het jou duidelik misgis Meneer!!!
