Not a retirement home, not a proper frail care, a mish mash, understaffed , food sometimes hardly edible. I imagined enjoying my latter years in a totally different environment. This is now more of a frail care, and not even set up as such

We were so happy to have found The Crescent Home for my father who was diagnosed with dementia. We moved down from Johannesburg in 2016 and brought him with us after his sudden forced retirement due to his condition. The staff are amazing, the facilitird are always clean an well maintained, the rooms are top class and the location is conveniently central and close to the beaches. My father has never been happier now that he has retired to peaceful Plettenberg Bay.

A questionable retirement lodge and definitely NOT a Frail Care facility. In January 2019 my sister and I began researching care facilities for my mother who has advanced dementia. Crescent Home seemed to meet our criteria, advertising 24/7 Assisted Living and Frail Care on its website; dementia/Alzheimer articles on its Facebook page; and a brochure summarising all of this for a reasonable cost. However, after closer scrutiny, we realised this facility does not cater for the frail; has a steep flight of stairs without a safety barrier; and at the time was clearly understaffed. The day before our mother was supposed to move into the home, we were shocked when told that if we were concerned, we could hire a private nurse for an extra cost. Had we been informed about this extra cost from the beginning, we would never have applied for admission. We therefore requested our Admission Fee be refunded. Management refused. Six months later, the Small Claims Court agreed with my family and ordered Crescent Home to refund our Admission Fee. They finally paid up, only after being served a warrant by the Sheriff of the court. I am now satisfied to see that Crescent Home no longer claims to provide Frail Care, having removed Frail Care references from their website and most of their Facebook page. Surely a business that claims to provide care for the elderly, should also provide a level of empathy and consideration to already anxious family members? Our experience was undeniably the opposite.
