The steam train ride was an excellent experience. We spoke with the senior train driver who explained to us what it actually takes to keep the steam locomotives running. We didn't know that they start to fire up the engine on Friday so they can use the train on Sunday. They even have a night-shift to keep the fire going. It takes 2 days, otherwise the steam is not hot enough. The also inspect the train thoroughly before each trip. Safety first. As it is all run by volunteers, they deserve more than five stars. 100%

Great day out with the family. From Pretoria to Cullinan and back again. Trip can take longer than expected as the train has to wait for metro to pass in different sections. Still an amazing trip and beautiful train.

Its a lovely experience, the staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Don't plan on having a picnic at the station before the train departs; there is very little seating (old train benches and a few wooden benches) under a temporary shade cloth and it is very dusty. Some drinks can be bought at one of the locomotives. There were issues with one of the coaches brakes so we were delayed for just over an hour however the actual train ride was really enjoyable. They allocate sufficient space for a family which was great so the kids can move around.
