Very challenging hike, but rewarded with beautiful views and experiences. I do however feel that for the price you pay for the hike, things can be done better. The overnight facilities - relating especially to the "bathrooms" are in a terrible condition. I'd rather opt for a bush and a wet wipe - I'm not saying it has to be fancy, it is a hike afterall but sho some of those facilities were really in a terrible condition when we were there in 2017. At least then make it cheaper? I honestly can't see where they are investing the money paid for the hike. The trails aren't marked well and in some of the huts there were only 10 matresses when we booked for 17 people and were assured that that wouldn't be a problem and that everyone would have a place to sleep. Don't get me wrong this is a great adventure, but at some point I felt like my sense of humour could only carry me so far. This hike can also become a nightmare when faced with 3 or more days of consecutive rain - prepare well for that mentally and in terms of dry socks and underwear.

Amazing and one of the more difficult trails I've been on. I'd say about twice as difficult as the otter. Nonetheless, what a beautiful place. The hardest parts of the hike was having to see all the natural flora cut in order to grow pine. And of course, the fauna got the boot. Literally
Distances are much longer, trails not well marked, lot more technical terrain, extended inclines like over 5km, also very treacherous terrain. Sometimes you walking on the edge- you literally feel like if you fall off you can die. If amatola is 10/10 on scale of difficulty, then otter is 5/10.Not for the faint hearted only the experienced hiker should attempt it We enjoyed it nonetheless, will be back again for sure
Mentally and physically the toughest challenge I've taken on in a many years! AMAZING views. HARD work. Slippery rocks. Don't think you can just arrive and get going, you need to prepare your fitness levels for this one. The hardest but most scenic hike in SA by far.
Rated the toughest hike in SA,after 3 days i agree, beautiful scenery and wow waterfalls awesum!!!
Life changing experience....simply epic!
If you do the 6 day hike, the terrain changes vastly from day to day. Magical.
