Big shady camping sites. Ablutions old but neat and clean. Swimming pool was dirty.

First of all... The one fact which makes my review 5 stars is that the beach is gorgeous and only a 2 minute bike ride away. To top it off you have a spectacular wooden path to walk/ride along the way as seen below. A pool is close by within the camp site to top it all off. We paid only R140 per person per night to camp (10 USD) which in my book is BIG value for money. Would recommend: Traveling with a mountain bike. Would not recommend: Exploring at night due to hippos. Camping in the middle of summer season due to damp air and heat.

If you camp in summer make sure your spot is close to the ablution, you're going to shower 5 times a day due to the heat. Close to beach if you take the board walk. Hippos and crocodiles everywhere. Town with shops and restaurants not too far but still driving distance. Camping spots are well spaced.

The staff at the gate for the Sugar Loaf caravan park was wonderful. They helped us get settled in, directed us to the registration office,\\ (back up the road), and warned us not to walk on the streets of St. Lucie after dark because of the Hippos. They weren't kidding. We watched whale watching boats and fisherman launch from the beach the next morning. It's only a five minute stroll rom the campground down the boardwalk. Mind the signs that say "Beware of Crocodiles" and look for the Hippos that hang out next to the river boat launch. A couple from Los Angeles about fell over when they drove up and we waved them down the dock to come within about 100 feet of a herd of River Horses.

Nice great camping site where you can camp with the family or in big groups. Our experience with them was great, we were able to camp several nights there and had all that we needed. The camp site has several common spaces for dishwashing, showers, toilets and each individual camp area has a brai and water. From the camp to the beach is a 10 minute walk, and is nice to admire the vegetation in the area. Prices are R110 per adult and kids under 12 camp free of charge.
