A delightful and long overdue surprise for Pietermaritzburg. Almost in town, almost in the country, Ashburton has just lead the way for child-friendly breakaway spots in the Pmb area. The new business has a fast growing miniature train display that lights up the eyes of children & adults alike. The Station Master is a wonderful guide, full of detailed explanations & deservedly proud of the establishment. Wandering from the Railway Shed across the grassy parking, the cheerful signs guide the visitor to an fenced area where country teas are served. Fresh, well-prepared produce and hearty hot snacks make this a perfect place to spend a few hours. There are a host of rustic games for the family to play (there are even some board games at the tables to amuse you while you pass the time). A "Pic-tree" with props make photos a family giggle. Or bring a picnic to set out in another well grassed area. Do you have a dog which can be trusted on a leash? Welcome! Don't forget to make your bagged deposit in the "poop pot" collection point after you and the dogs have rambled through the wild growing area. The soon-to-be-completed mini-hike areas will be great news for the children & their carers. What a treat! Right on your doorstep Pietermaritzburg, 5km out from the city limits, on the south, Durban side of town. See you there!
