The Hike up to West Peak is moderate. There is a section just before you go over the top that is not clearly marked and one could go up and over two ways. One way calls for scrambling up a thin crevice which I don't recommend at all as it is crumbling and very dangerous. I think people have used it too many times as it is more direct. However, the other way requires going around which appears to be leading in the opposite direction, but it does zigzag back and over the top. It is not much longer and is much safer. Plenty of water is needed. You can do this hike there and back within 5-6 hours. The walk once you're ontop continues up until you get to the summit. Reward yourself with lunch and gaze at the amazing 360 views all around. It's spectacular. There are a few hairy points and one does need to be cautious. Wear proper hiking shoes and take it slowly when you're on the side going up as there are a few drops. There are a few sections you may need to do some climbing with arms and legs and if you have a fear of heights - some bum sliding, but otherwise it's fine.

Lovely to be outside in gorgeous nature. Stiff, tough climbing to the top. Will do it again!

Great 4x4 ride to the top with a superb view of Somerset West and Strand and even Table Mountain on a clear day. Ensure you have a proper 4x4 with lots of clearance when you want to do the Red route. The Blue route is much easier.

2h30 up for the reasonably fit, but there's no rush. It's absolutely outstanding to see the whole of Cape town from the summit, and the immersion in nature on the way up is hypnotising. Arrive as early as possible, wear sunscreen and a hat especially in summer. 1 litre of water was not enough for me to be honest. Take care.

I absolutely loved the walk. It was very warm though. I didn't take enough water to make it to the peak so I had to turn back. Next time, I will take more

Great hikes with very diverse vegetation for all fitness levels. The views of False bay and the mountains are exceptional and the huge fynbos and bird life, make it a great place for photographers. The picnic area is well kept and offers many shady spots under the oak trees
