Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you analyse your emotions, thoughts, experiences and beliefs to gain insight into your life and your problems and to evaluate the patterns that you have developed over time. Therefore my approach is centered around providing a safe space for my clients in which internal exploration will aid in the understanding and acknowledgement of patterns, past and present experiences and allowing you to engage with your emotional world, which will advocate for change, meaning and personal growth. In order for this to happen, the therapeutic space provided will be open and non-judgmental. The ‘therapeutic alliance’ is pivotal to the therapeutic space, and this means that therapy is an active collaboration between you as my client and me as the psychologist. I completed my undergraduate degree at UCT, my Honours degree at the UWC and lastly, my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology also at UWC. I then completed my internship at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in Pretoria where I conducted psychotherapy and psychometric assessments on children, adolescents and adults. After my internship year I worked as a registered community service clinical psychologist in the outpatients department at Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital in Mitchells Plain in Cape Town. Here I provided psychotherapy to adult individuals as well as facilitating groups. During this year I also worked at Maccassar Clinic where I provided psychotherapy to adults and adolescents and play therapy to children. My previous experience and qualifications before studying psychology consist of a degree in fine art, film and exercise science (qualified personal fitness trainer).
