My experience with SEFA has been frustrating. I approached the agency in August for finance to start a medium size legal firm that would employ a minimum of five employees. After dropping my 150 page business plan/proposal at SEFA Parktown, I was advised that the application would be finalized within six weeks. And then I was told that I did not provide enough security, and to approach the Department of Justice/Education for assistance. I have attempted to talk to a few people from the aforesaid departments, and have even had to lodge complaints within the departments because the people either do not understand what SEFA is even about, or are simply lazy/unwilling to assist. Attempts to contact the Parktown office has also proved fruitless as their phone just rings unanswered for, for three days now!

I am traumatized by how our application is handled by SEFA Cape Town, We made an application 5th September 2019, indicating deadline on our purchase order, then I was requested to get an extension from the client which we did. Today as I write this I was promised that the Board will sit tomorrow 17th October 2019 then I am called by 16:00pm today 16th October to be told the Board postponed to next week 22 Tuesday, yet week before last I was told the going to sit last week 10th October 2019, Whats frustrating me is that they do not seem to respect fact that we have deadline with our client to meet, they just delay all the way and we expected to understand, We are working hard as a Black SMME to find ourselves in a position where we could qualify for the kind of project we been awarded now we at the risk of loosing it because of SEFA a State Organ that gives an image that is there to assist Black SMMEs There is a complete disconnect to SMMEs assistance, I even tried to be pro-active and get some of materials so project can proceed so long as they are busy with the adjudication process I am still told that there will not be refund for materials we buy, Is more like just sit there watch us destroy your credibility with your client, I am completely frustrated, guess what I must still see to it that I meet the deadline, Commitments made to us are not honored all, timelines escalate all the way, I really do not see passion and dedication to Black SMMEs, And we can forget to see the dream of seeing equality in this Country and success of entrepreneurs and SMMEs, because the Body positioned as an answer to support is the one breaking you as a small guy

I called the Sefa office and I was assisted by a very courteous, well spoken, professional, knowledgeable and friendly gentleman named Anele. He took his time to listen to my request and in return offered me the assistance, support and knowledge I needed. I had a very pleasant and worthwhile experience on the phone I was left feeling satisfied and not regretting why I had made the call. Anele is true testament that excellent customer service still exists and proper telephone etiquette is a reality. Thank you Sefa, & to Anele, keep it Up
