Nan Hua Temple is the largest Buddhist temple and seminary in Africa and absolutely gorgeous Chinese architecture to witness especially during the Chinese new year where the whole temple comes to life with live performances, colourful cultural shows, dance and range of shops selling Chinese artifacts. This temple being in South Africa, they have African theme along with Chinese cultural shows and quite honestly, this is by far the best combination. They have self-catering chalets here and one can stay here to learn the Buddhist faith, its reasonably priced. I really recommend for the youngsters to volunteer for the new year celebration, they get to learn discipline and serve visitors coming to the temple on the new year day. This is something to witness to fully appreciate Chinese culture in a foreign country.

I have been here twice and both times I felt nothing but endless love and happiness. Truly a place where the Spirit of Maitreya rests. May Beloved Quan Yin bless all who labour and live at this beautiful temple. Please do visit here.

Serene, tranquil and quiet. The Buddhist temple is a welcome relief from the noise of the city, you have the option of meditating in the the great temple. The Buddha statues are so incredibly beautiful and each of the 3 has their own specific history. The temple grounds are vast and a stroll through is sure to bring you peace.

Visited the temple on two separate occasions. Once on a normal Saturday morning and on the Chinese New Year 2020. There are strict protocols that need to be respected and followed. Such as, you may not enter the temples with shoes on, you are permitted in bare foot or on your socks. So to make your life easier, wear shoes that you can easily slip on and off. There are three temple sites on the main grounds that you would have to do this to see inside. You are not allowed to eat, drink or smoke on the grounds, unless on festival days of course. Over weekends the weekends, you can purchase a prayer bottle to light for any particular prayer you want to make, simply ask politely which statue you should put it in front of. The temple runs off of donations predominantly. There is a restaurant and tea house that you can visit too, just outside the main temple gates on your right. There are restrooms available. Make sure you are aware that there will be a bit of walking and stair climbing involved, nothing harsh. Some tips on any newbies visiting the temple, please keep in mind, to dress appropriately by covering the necessary bits, don't touch any of the monks, and speak in an inside voice. Simply read and follow the rules and you will be fine. The strange bit is, it is also considered rude to point at anything, so its encouraged to instead hold out an extended open palm hand into the direction that you are pointing in. There are no entry fees to see the temple and you are not forced to participate in any of their rituals or traditions. It is an interesting visit to appreciate the culture, artwork and architecture. You are looking at spending about an hour and a half here.

Really worth going here. Great for spiritual gain and learn about Buddhist. Good place for getting in touch with your inner self. Beautiful garden's and grounds. Loads of Buddhist status to admire and photograph. Special place to come but remember it is a place of worship so you need to be respectful. Small restaurant available at info center building.
