Located in the southernmost corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, Boekenhoutskloof was officially established in 1776 - one of the oldest farms in Franschhoek. Today, the Boekenhoutskloof farm belongs to Boekenhoutskloof Investments (Pty) Ltd, who since 1996 have re-introduced wine production to the property. Lead by Cellar Master Marc Kent (South African Winemaker of the Year, 2007), the winery is now regarded as one of SA’s top producers. As a producer, Boekenhoutskloof is a Syrah specialist, with its premium Boekenhoutskloof range selling out on release each vintage, and The Chocolate Block - a Syrah based blend - is probably the most successful new wine offering to come out of South Africa in the modern era. In 2009, Boekenhoutskloof acquired the old “Company of Wine People” cellar, Helderberg Winery on Winery Road, Stellenbosch. The existing production facilities were revamped and modernised to suit the growing requirements. Today, Porcupine Ridge, The Wolftrap as well as a few export exclusive brands are produced here. Also, The Chocolate Block barrel maturation cellar has been moved here to ensure optimal storage conditions. Other recent acquisitions were the Porseleinberg and Goldmine properties in the Swartland, each of which have their unique brand propositions in their own right, but also serving as important sources of grapes for the Boekenhoutskloof brand portfolio.
