I received an SMS requesting me to go to Walmer Park Shopping Centre to donate blood. My Blood Group is O Negative and I am 2 months short of 70 years old. Two problems. I had to stand and wait outside the enclosure for roughly 15 minutes because inside was a youngish lady waiting for her friend /colleague to finish giving blood. She sits inside the enclosure drinking a Coke while someone waiting to donate stands outside. Why is she even inside when we're supposed to practice social distancing, and why do your staff allow her to take up a seat meant for a donor. Secondly, there's a large pack of fruit juices on the table but the donors are not offered anything. I felt a bit dizzy, so had to go and buy my own sugared drink. Why? If this is how people giving blood for free are treated, you can do without my O Negative in future. Just curious, what happens to all the juices that are not given to the donors. Dianne Barnard.
