The Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT) is a pioneering non-profit conservation organization that has more than 20 years conservation experience. Our primary objective is the conservation and protection of White Lions in the wild of their natural habitat as a capstone for the protection of the entire lion population in the Kruger to Canyon (K2C) Biosphere Region and related ecosystem. We work closely with local Tsonga and Sepedi Communities for whom the white lion has significant cultural value, encouraging these communities to conserve natural heritage through our cultural and educational programs. Our CEO, Linda Tucker, is an internationally acclaimed conservationist and author of three published books on the subject of the White Lions, with a particular focus on the cultural aspects and the role of these iconic animals as symbolic of leadership and good governance. Our specialist lion ecologist, Jason A. Turner, has 20 years experience in lion conservation, and is responsible for the ground-breaking introduction, scientific research and conservation of the White Lions. The NPO has established a protected area of approx. 2000 hectares within the GKEPZ (Greater Kruger Environmental Protection Zone) and introduced three prides of White Lions integrated with tawny lions to their endemic habitat. Fundamental to the long-term objective of the WLT is dropping fences with neighbouring responsibly managed conservancies, in accordance with the existing protected area expansion strategy within the K2C Region. However, we have a strict non-trophy hunting policy and will require protective measures in place before so doing, in a region that still commercially hunts lions.
