The African Network for Research and Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV (ReproNet-Africa) is a consortium of various reproductive health research and training institutions and organisations across Africa. It was created in 2003 on the initiative of a number of organisations including: the World Health Organisation (WHO), Family Health International (FHI), Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Research Institute (Wits RHI), IPAS, Implementing Best Practices (IBP) Initiative, Network of Training Centres, and Partners in Population and Development. The institutions which came together to form this consortium had all received support as Collaborating Centres for the WHO Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP). ReproNet-Africa is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) currently located within the offices of the Wits RHI, Johannesburg, South Africa. ReproNet-Africa acts as an “umbrella” regional network linking, coordinating and strengthening existing reproductive health research institutions for the purpose of improving the reproductive health status in Africa.
