The Famous Idea Trading Company is a boutique publicity company based in Johannesburg, but operational on a national basis, focusing primarily on projects within the arts and culture sector since its establishment in 2002. The Famous Idea has successfully managed on-going publicity campaigns for the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown (and their subsidiary projects, including the South African participation at the 55th Venice Biennale); The Standard Bank Jazz Festival, Grahamstown; The Johannesburg International Mozart Festival, The Franschhoek Literary Festival, The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT); the Gordon Institute of Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA), The Spier Summer Arts Season, The Fugard Theatre, The Standard Bank Gallery, The Naledi Theatre Awards, and The Standard Bank Young Artist Awards. We have also managed individual projects for organisations such as the Nedbank Championships for the Physically Disabled, the Stonehage Charitable Trust, the Paleontological Scientific Trust (PAST), the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Gerard Sekoto Foundation, The Dance Factory, AM Productions, TEATERTeater, The Best Little Company in the Whole Wide World (GT Ferreira), The Theatre Arts Admin Collective and a host of individual artists and pro bono projects. Although many projects have been specifically geographically located, they have enjoyed extensive national coverage, and positive media engagement across all platforms, with even relatively small projects often running into 10’s of millions of Rands worth of publicity value generated. As a result of more than a decade of interaction and engagement with in excess of 500 national and international journalists, The Famous Idea has built up a solid and reliable reputation and media database, and as a result has close relationships with media across the board. Working closely with clients and sponsors, we have developed an intrinsic understanding of the arts, and the sponsorship landscape.
