Great service. Great cars. Perfect prices. I used the vehicles to travel between Johannesburg and Durban. Literally booked the car on the day and never had an issue. Used Thrifty 3 times and thus far I'm very satisfied.

Everything was ok. Car was with good condition (I have chosen Nissan X-trail 4x4 for 4 person - perfect choice), had some scratch but all were in documentations. I made 3500 km around South Africa (Kruger, Golden Gate, Marakele, Mapungubwe etc.) and was a perfect trip. I had only one problem with car, the first had some problem with seatbelt, but the customers service switched it for another in 5 min.

I can't complain about Thrifty's car rental. Always good service and friendly staff. Highly recommended

Need a car? Get it somewhere else! Don't use these guys, they will charge you for fuel top up even though you filled up at the airport when you returned the car, and then refuse to refund you for what seems to be their mistake/theft. They will even go so far as to create fake fuel slips dated more than a week after they charged your card to try and prove why/how they stole your money. You've been warned!

Thrifty Dollar Company in Tambo Int Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa continue to charge my card from time to time after we returned car without any damage and doesn’t answer why they’re doing this. The only answer we got was that agent will answer us. The agent Around About Cars who booked for us car with Thrifty answered they couldn’t help and we should contact Thrifty. Which means nobody answers why money continue to disappear from my account, they just sending me one to another. That is the story. On 29 Aug we took car in the Airport with Thrifty Dollar and paid the amount stated in the agreement - ZAR10905 (around 760). On 17 Sep we returned car and received signed by their staff vehicle inspection sheet that car had no any damage. We relaxed and forgot. But then they started to charge my card from time to time: on 26 Sep ZAR327,88 (23), on 2 Oct ZAR 12584,4 (873), on 18 Oct ZAR 650 (45). I have a lot of questions to Thrifty Dollar: - Why to get an answer I have to write dozens emails? - Why you continue to charge my card without providing any documents or even explanations? - Will you continue to charge my card every 2 weeks till the end of my life? - Will I get any day any documents proofing additional charges in the amount of almost 1000USD? For me that’s unbelievable that’s such a huge car rental company as Dollar Thrifty works like Cheater: no answers messages, steals money from card (and this is Theft because I’ve got no explanation of any of charges). I would never recommend this 2 companies (Around About Cars and Thrifty Dollar) to any of my friends. Fraud! I write this just to let know that this can happen to everyone if you book car with them. I don’t believe I will get any answer from any of them because I haven’t got any answer for the last months.

DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use this company if you value your holding deposit, the reviews you see here are all true. They put me on hold for more then an hour and kept redirecting my call until I ended up at a Mercedes dealership in the Western Cape, ( this went on for more than 2 weeks after my holding deposit was due). When you go in for the first time they act like they are aware of the holding deposit problem and have improved upon it, only for you to get the shock of your life when you want your money back. I wish there was a zero rating here, they deserve it

Returned the car in perfect order, They kept some of deposit and only after 3 weeks of asking did I get a breakdown of why. They said the fuel wasn't full (lie), charged me again for the KM's I had driven (after I paid for 200km and had only driver 150km), and added tonnes of other fees which they wouldn't and couldn't explain what they were for. Avoid this company, they will scam you out of your deposit.

Avoid this company if you want to enjoy your holiday! Their service is horrific and their handling of credit card details and returning of deposit is bordering on fraud. I had A terrible customer service experience from start to end. Was booked to collect my X-Trail at 9.30am, got to Thrifty maybe 10 mins late at most to be told my car is gone and I'll have to wait for another one - that took almost another hour! Not great after a long international flight. I paid R1500 extra for a border crossing letter, but it wasnt ready. They said dont worry, they'll email it to me. 5 days later still nothing! In my repeated phone calls to them, they were extremely rude, hung up the phone on me, passed the buck from person to person and despite understanding my urgency made zero effort to help. I eventually called a head office number to get assistance. When doing the return inspection, the employee was smoking a cigarette right next to us. Highly unprofessional and do no reccomend. Avoid !
