I have never left a review before but today I felt I had to. Being a nervous mom, and overprotective ,I must say my child was in safe hands. My son had a complicated rare squint in both eyes. Dr. Cullen was always on the ball, replying to my emails, phoning me, checking up on my son. She really cares for her patients and goes the extra mile. Very happy I chose her for my sons eyes because his result was great. He is running around and is more confident because he can actually see. Very happy.

I took my 2yr 11 month child for an eye examination in September. Unfortunately the doctor could not perform all the tests as the light was frustrating the little one. Long story short my child would have to do the eye Test under a light anesthetic in hospital. The Dr then advised the lady at reception to reduce my consultation fee as some of the testing was not compete. The lady at reception instead billed me the full R1,750 (Cash) and told me I would not have to pay the R1,000 co-payment for the Eye testing in-hospital, under anesthesia. That was all great until i was informed i was requires to do a covid test with my son prior to admission which would ultimately be additional costs for me, since our medical savings are depleted. When i opted out of the testing this year and rather postpone the remaining tests till January 2021, when the medical aid Funds are available - Im getting no joy with getting reimbursed With what was Initially agreed with the doctor, Regarding the incomplete Eye tests. For a cash practice its easy to take money from the patient but when its time to return some of it- you figure it out.

I used Dr. Cullen because of the 5 * ratings on google. I was a bit disappointed. I expected maybe little more patience working with children. Our daughter is 7 years old. All other doctors always explains what they are going to do before they stick something in their ears or throats.... next thing she had wind in her eyes to check the pressure and she ended up in tears as she did not expect it, I tried to explain and calm her down, but next moment ‘we need to do this or use drops that will sting....” then few moments later....’lets do it the baby way by putting drops in your eyes’.... after being told that it will sting... then crying again because she does not want to be hurt by a sting... The wind ‘machine’ was explained and demonstrated afterwards - but would have been better if it was explained and demonstrated on the finger FIRSTLY to avoid the shock of having the sudden wind in your eyes. Going to doctors are stressful for children as it is most of the times their FIRST time. We did not had a very pleasant FIRST experience, but the dr. is very good with her Diagnosis and consult. Directions not to clear in hospital: Go left adter coffee shop, at the T fo to the right till you reach the lift. Go to -1 and go left - you will walk straight into KidsEyes.
