I don’t know why Phabeni has the reputation of being the slowest gate in the Kruger. We arrived just before 06h00 on Easter Sunday to a loooong line of cars. Considering the volume of cars, the staff worked through the cars really quickly. Great visibility from the onset at Phabeni, we were even lucky enough to spot Buffalo after only about 10 minutes of driving. A great choice of Kruger gate, especially if you’re in Hazyview.

It's just the cues that are a schlep and time consuming, it gets busy early in the morning, from the time it opens, especially when rangers pitch up with 8 to 12 people on board and have to register and then pay for each person, some rangers also try and skip the cue to the front, but luckily the friendly staff direct them gracefully back to the cue again. There should be a special cue for people who book and pay online, this will go so much faster, which is what we did, and if I was in the office for 3min it was alot, others who still needed to fill in forms and pay were in the office for 10 to 15 min at a time, but unfortunately we still had to stand in the same cue as everyone. Please create a special cue for people who pay online. Thank you for your friendly staff so early in the morning.

Had a great day in the park. Park has absolutely zero litter. Rangers at restrooms were friendly and all vehicles seemed to obey the rules. Definately coming again.

Friendliest crew i have ever encountered on any KNP gate. From the entrance ranger, the reception ladies to the gate... all round great people

Arrived in time before the long queues start. We opted not to self drive but to use game drive cars and enjoy the breeze. You should be warned its hot hot heat make sure you have your water and sunscreen. The game drive itself was just beautiful and we manage to see a lot of animals. Lion, Elephants, Rhino (which was a bit far), Buffalo's and many more. I would recommend this for family outing any day.

I would say the best gate to start your Kruger journey with. Facilities are clean and staff are friendly. There is also a welcome center and small shop for refreshments. From this gate it's a straight road to skukuza base camp.
