Launchpad builds & runs multilingual Montessori preschools focused on making low-cost early childhood development accessible across Gauteng & ultimately, South Africa. Launchpad brings together 3 key innovations: (1) a focus on high-quality Montessori-based education with a strong academic focus; (2) optimising a child's language learning ability by introducing them to a new language through dual-medium instruction and; (3) programmes that focus on innovation, design thinking & character development - all key focus points of the future-proofing education. We are currently piloting a dual-language model for English second language learners. In the USA, Spanish-speaking children show better academic & English outcomes when placed into dual-medium schools as opposed to English-medium schools. As a large percentage of South African children enter primary school with no English proficiency but are taught in English. This model would allow children to start the foundational education in a language they understand whilst becoming proficient in English.
