My grandmother passed away last year, we decided to have her cremated - but, we live in a small town so she had to be driven over two hours to the nearest crematorium. When it was all done, we got her back in a beautiful pine box with a silver plague on top. The total price? Just around R9000. My father passed away a week ago, he was in ICU in Pretoria - the hospital recommended Martin's since it was deemed more affordable. Neil was very helpful and did his best to arrange everything as quickly as possible so that we could go home. My father came back in decent wooden box that we chose, the "plague" wasn't even attached - it came in a little plastic bag and was nothing more than a flimsy, plastic slate emblazoned with their logo right next to my father's name with two strips of double-sided tape haphazardly stuck on the back. The total cost? R19000. The entire family had to pitch in. It can't help but feel like they're taking advantage of the grieving.
