Rietvlei Nature Reserve is such a majestic gem, only a short drive from Pretoria or Johannesburg - a perfect midway stop! They open at 7:00 during COVID level 3 and the gates close at 18:00. The viewpoints are closed at the moment. There is an entry fee but it's not expensive, especially because of the upkeep and maintenance - the roads are mainly tarred (better than some of our roads in the city). The restaurant is also the orginal farmhouse that was converted, offering delicious milkshakes and toasted sandwiches.

Great day visit for the family and close to centurion. Kids loved the time out to see the animals and snap some pics. Roads are great for any car, also have some dirt roads for the more adventurous. Saw lots of rhino, zebra and ostriches. Some nice look out points as well. Also it was really cheap so altogether a excellent option.

I haven’t visited many nature reserves in the Pretoria area but this is the best one I’ve been to. The roads are perfect for any type of car. The routes are nice and long. The nature here is beautiful. Hard to find animals sometimes but otherwise a please to be here.

The kids enjoy it a lot for an outing in the morning. Nice restaurant and the staff are friendly. Saw a cerval the other day.
