I went the The Black Bamboo for the first time and tried the 7 course wine pairing menu. We were welcomed with a house cocktail. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions are small so you are able to actually eat and enjoy every course !! You receive about half of a regular glass of wine, which was perfect since there are seven glasses! Outdoor seating is cozy and comfortable! The staff was very friendly. Great for a special occasion or night out !!

Oh my word, what an amazing experience. My hubby and I came for a lunch, and from the moment we stepped in, we were in awe with everything from the architecture, the art of Anton Smit, the music, the service and then the food......we had the 7 Course set menu. It was AMAZING!!!! We could not ask for better. Each course was beautifully presented and taste was our of this world. We will definitely come back.

The chef has changed and the vegetarian menu has been dropped, though there is still an emphasis on fine dining. They will cater to personal diets, but that's far from the same as a dedicated vegetarian menu, unfortunately. We enjoyed this restaurant in a guest house and it was easy to find, near the N1 motorway. The vegetarian tasting menu (at the time) was a delight and there is a reasonable wine selection. The chairs are not the best, so ask for options (they have a few that are more upright).

One of the best fine dining experiences in Pretoria. Excellent service goes without saying. Great atmosphere - stylish yet relaxed. The food is art. You don’t only pay for top notch ingredients and the time to prepare every element to perfection, but also for the knowledge, skill and artistic instinct to create mind blowing plates of utter deliciousness!

Black bamboo has been on my must visit list for a while now and I finally had the opportunity to go. The restaurant itself is quite nice, nothing overly pretentious just very nicely decorated with lots of Anton Smit sculptures inside and out. The service was unfortunately not exactly what I expected, although all the staff was friendly and helpful we were left for long stretches of time with no service, sometimes with empty plates and even no drinks. Most importantly is the food and here at least they did not disappoint. My partner does not eat red meat and the chef was kind enough to make him a special chicken main course. The lamb dish I had was just delicious and well worth the wait. In summary then, a beautiful restaurant with good food but certainly a need to refocus their efforts on service.

Another great evening at Black Bamboo. As part of the restaurant week, they offered a lunch (4 course) and dinner (5 course) menu. We opted for the 5 course menu for dinner. Our waiter, Ben John, looked well after and our meals were as follows: Cured Salmon (8/10) Textures of Butternut (4/10) Oxtail Ragù (7/10) Roasted Duck (5/10 - duck was on the tough side) Strawberries & Chocolates (8/10) Coffee & Churros (8/10) The bottle of Keermont complemented the meals quite well!
