Typically poor service from a South African government institution. Expect long queues, technical errors, and incompetent staff. You must ensure you've done your research, bring redundant documents as it seems employees jump at any excuse not to help you. Booking an appointment online may help you skip queues. Not in my case though, there was some or other technical error, which they admitted was from their system, but I had to wait in a queue for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Just be prepared for frustration and poor service, it may not happen all the time, but it happens often enough to wholly deserve a 1 start rating.

Changed my bank details on e-filing. Didn't get any notices/complaints, but didn't get my tax refund either. I e-mailed the helpline, and got informed there was some problem on the system, and I had to come in with proof of my bank details. No options to submit electronically or by mail. Went to the branch, stood in the queue, and got turned away at the info desk. Apparently I also need a certified copy of my ID and proof of residence, which no-one mentioned before. Went to the branch again, sat in the queue for 6 hours, finally got the bank details loaded on the system. Should it be this difficult to get my tax refund? The consultant thinks this system is great. She pointed out numerous times how wonderful it all is, and how other state departments probably wish they had a system like this. Personally, I'd take home affairs over SARS any day. The system is equally tedious and inefficient, but at least I don't finally get helped by someone who expects me to be happy about it all.

Don't let the long queue put you off. Went quickly. In and out in about 45 minutes. Staff friendly and helpful _ MUCH BETTER than Home Affairs.

Queues after queues, most of the staff goes to lunch at 12H00 and leave for almost an hour, more than 200 people are waiting for a minimum of 4 hours.... Poor service, this is a perfect representation and experience of how the South African are looked after by the government .... and on top of this we pay for this. CHOCKING..... The score is going down every day and they do not care.....

If you want to resolve a dispute you need to be there early (the que starts forming at 4 am already) it is fully booked for the day by the early morning and disputes takes up to 90 mins to resolve. You also pay R3.40 for every 15 minutes you park. Can't resolve the dispute online or any other way even if you provided the correct documentation and just a way to waste your time and squeeze a little more money out of the tax payer.
