The Innovation Bridge Portal (IBP) has been developed as a national resource for the South African innovation ecosystem. By facilitating useful connections and disseminating relevant information the Portal aims to create opportunities throughout the National System of Innovation (NSI), primarily by profiling and showcasing the world-class innovations, technological competencies produced in South Africa. Thus we see the IBP as a virtual network that will stimulate and foster ongoing collaboration, in order to enable continuous technology development and commercialisation. The current version of the IBP is a multifaceted information repository platform displaying top South African innovations and technological competencies. Further, information regarding open grants and funding calls as well as relevant events are posted on the IBP. Going forward, the next IBP iteration will allow for automated matchmaking through machine learning in order to make introductions between relevant researchers, innovators, technology developers, entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs with relevant funding bodies, investors, other funding opportunities, collaborators, venture partners, and innovation specific support services.
