If you want real long lasting help with an addiction or mental health issue please do NOT go here!

If you have a mental health emergency over any public holiday or weeks interrupted with public holidays and cannot find any psychiatric help, unfortunately akeso will be of no psychiatric help to you either. They will be understaffed of psychiatrists, psychologists and the COPE team (meaning some days like Christmas and Boxing Day you will receive no help). There are no schedules or any meaningful plan for your mental health needs. Save yourself the effort and money. The most you can receive is two sessions a day with a psychiatrist and psychologist (depending on their schedule for example some dony work on Sundays). The entire COPE team which provides other services like group therapy or art therapy will not be present for Christmas, Boxing Day or the Sunday that follows. If this is how mental health is treated, it is an inherently broken system meant to profit off the mentally ill and provide no meaningful care or treatmwnt towards them.

I would just like to thank the Psychiatric Intervention Unit for their tremendous help on 08/03. Akeso thank you for taking the initiative and providing this service to South Africans

Absolutely shocking facility. Security guard at gate swore at visitor in front of us for not having a reference. Then reception took nearly an hour to check in my spouse. Room was a shambles, bed was unmade and no duvet cover, plus two very physically sick patients on either side of my spouse's bed both with one with visitors outside of visiting hours in room. Frankly my dogs at home have better sleeping facilities. And to make it worse my spouse is chemo patient with a low immune system and an existing infection. Head sister showed zero empathy. If anyone needs their heads checked it is the staff at Akeso. I hope you never have to have the displeasure of having to check in someone you care about into Akeso.

Good Friday the young woman answering the phone is arrogant and most probably has never suffered with addiction or left South Africa.
