Our goal s to establish an international network of universities focusing on a range of issues pertinent to the success of South African society and higher education PROJECT DESCRIPTION United States-South Africa Higher Education Network (US-SA HEN) is a project funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)’s University Capacity Development Programme (UCDP) whose aim is to build a network of US and South African universities to respond to the needs in the South African higher education community. The project falls within the ambit of UCDP at DHET which is a transformative initiative that focuses on capacity development i.e. (i) student support; (ii) staff development and (iii) curriculum development. Specifically supported under this effort is the University Staff Development Programme (USDP), an initiative aimed at advancing strategies to facilitate growth of a doctoral candidate pool in South Africa and create exchange opportunities for faculty, staff and students in collaborating institutions and higher education institutions in both nations. It is also aimed at advancing the South African higher education transformation agenda by encouraging support for the UCDP initiative of the DHET, by encouraging development of a network of institutions in the USA and SA committed to building exchange opportunities, and shared infrastructure development. It is anticipated that this initiative will advance strategies to facilitate growth of a doctoral candidate pool in South Africa and create exchange opportunities for faculty, staff and students in collaborating institutions and higher institutions in both nations. It is also aimed to advance the South African higher education transformation agenda by encouraging support for the UCDP initiative of the DHET, by encouraging development of a network of institutions in the USA and SA.
