Please make sure you have all paperwork at hand ,also do make sure you made an appointment. Very strict when waiting outside they have a paper on the bench scan the code with google lense to generate a ticket otherwise you will be sitting outside a long time. You have to hand in all your belongings at the door and you will only see it all once you are done make sure to leave money in car. Most important when going to the US make sure you know your rights they do give a pamphlet with all the us worker rights because they do ask you questions before you get approved.

Pathetic! The rudest interview! A TV blaring on the wall while trying to hear someone speaking through tinted glass! Totally inane questions asked during the "interview"! Why prepare hundreds of pages! Then, as a national of Namibia, I a forced to ship my passport back to the Consulate! And where is my passport?! It was delivered by DHL on 6 November 2020, yet no one at the Consulate can confirm receipt of it by today, 13 November 2020! You are simply stonewalled by the rudest, indifferent people hiding behind their segregated departments!

I hate even giving them 1 star. My fiance and I fought for a year and a half to get a fiance visa. The completely inept staff at this embassy held my fiances passport for OVER A YEAR. They refused to answer our numerous emails and phone calls, refused to give us answers, and refused to make a decision regarding our petition. In the end they wrongfully EXPIRED our petition, without even notifying us, and DESTROYED our documents and told us we are welcome to try again. Avoid this horrible excuse for an embassy at all costs! This embassy makes me understand why people try to enter the US illegally. Because when you do it the right way, jump through all the insane hoops, it does no good and no one is being held accountable. Miserable treatment of people's lives and futures.

The Consulate Section for diplomatic visas really need to improve their service levels. It's embarrassing. I sent an email to inquire about the need for an appointment, etc. I received an automatic reply stating: "Diplomatic or official visa applicants should submit the following documents to the Consular Section in Johannesburg during protocol hours" with "Protocol Hours Monday to Thursday from 1pm to 3:30pm and Friday from 8am to 11:30am". I get there earlier at the week, just past 3:00pm only to learn that no one was there. I go the next day (Wednesday) at 11:20. I was told that the staff had gone to lunch and to return at 13:00. I decide to go home instead, in time to receive an email stating "Please note that the passports, documents and photos may be submitted to the Consulate Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays 09:00AM – 11:00AM". I go there this morning (Thursday) at 9:20am. Only to be told that they accept documents on Tuesday. No one even had the courtesy to come out and talk to me, I had to speak to security. Really a poor reflection of the embassy.

Ntombi the lady with the red jacket was great and very helpful. She assisted me outside the door of the consulate today, and liaised with her supervisor on the inside to explain my situation. She showed great leadership skills in resolving my issue. In the end I was able to get my passport back today ( after only 2 days ) as I am flying overseas tonight. Excellent service.

My visit during the Visa appointment was very a quick and efficient experience. The staff are polite and friendly. If all your documents etc. are sufficient the entire process goes quickly. Be sure to follow all instructions to the letter and be open and honest in your actual interview. Leave your electronics at home. Phones may be deposited safely at security. They are quite busy so make sure to be there before your appointment and prepared to stand in queue. Be sure to apply online well before your intended travel dates as appointments dates are not early. A slot opened up and I could move my appointment earlier on the web portal after payment.
