Youth Potential South Africa - YOUPSA helps pave the way to awaken the creativity, potential and purpose in the disadvantaged rural youth of South Africa. YOUPSA is a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) works with youth from Grades 4 through to 12 in 4 disadvantaged schools in the rural Gamtoos Valley, Eastern Cape Province. Students living in under-resourced rural areas are surrounded by added stressors that make learning difficult. For these students, developing social and emotional skills is critical. YOUPSA brings education alive by igniting the inner spark in youth. When children discover their “spark”, they tap into their own unique talents and interests. Youth Potential South Africa - YOUPSA helps pave the way to awaken the creativity, potential and purpose in the disadvantaged rural youth of South Africa. Through YOUPSA's 'Creative Youth and Teacher Empowerment programmes'​, students and teachers develop vital social-emotional competencies that they need to make successful choices. YOUPSA promotes the children’s ability to recognise and manage emotions, build relationships, solve interpersonal problems, and make effective decisions and build a vision for their future. YOUPSA's core programmes: Creative Youth Empowerment Creative Teacher Empowerment Leadership & Team-building for Students, Teachers & School Boards Words Can Change Worlds Literacy programme Creating Health with Community Gardens What makes YOUPSA unique Most youth development organisations concentrate on external development, academic performance or early childhood years. Even youth that do complete their school education may not be adequately equipped for employment or for life. This is because young people need to acquire the social, cognitive, emotional, creative, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and listening skills, abilities required to navigate successfully through 21st century life.
